The Betrayal of White Rhodesia
A history of the British in Rhodesia, by YBNP Yorkshire member WJ.
Introduction
Smith v. Mugabe
Rhodesian Lions in Action
On the 11th November 1965, southern Rhodesia declared itself independent from the British Commonwealth and became Rhodesia. The classic green and white flag will forever symbolize 'Proud White Rhodesia'.

Rhodesia's Flag

This brief history of the country of Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) is for the benefit of British National Party members and supporters who we know will appreciate the truth of how successive British governments have sold out our own people in the continent of Africa. We have divided the story of this proud nation into three sections. Firstly, a concise history of the birth and development of Rhodesia. Secondly, two of the main personalities in the struggle between good and evil. Thirdly, the armed struggle for survival of the white people of Rhodesia from the Marxist terrorist assaults of 1965-80. We hope you enjoy reading at last the story of our people that has in the past been shamefully ignored.
Rhodesia -a short history
The present nation of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe was founded by Cecil John Rhodes. Born in 1853 in Worksop, England he moved to South Africa with his brother and founded the world famous De Beers mining company.

Cecil Rhodes dreamed of British influence and territory stretching from Cape Town to Cairo. He sent white pioneer columns into the area now known as Zimbabwe to push British influence through to the African interior and also to build an English colony and base to balance power away from Boer domination in that region. Three main tribes had also recently moved into that area. After several local disputes and actions against two of the tribes, the pioneers negotiated settlements and treaties to protect the tribes and British interests.

Under the backing of the British South Africa Company the colony of Rhodesia was created. Cecil Rhodes used the South Africa Company really as an empire-expanding tool. The white run colony flourished with benefits felt by all Rhodesians, white and black. In 1913, only 23 years after being formed it was ready to become a self-governing colony with 90 per cent of the whites there being direct from England. This was put to a halt however by the onset of First World War where 25 per cent of the white population volunteered to bear arms for the Empire, fighting bravely. In 1923 Rhodesia finally was granted full self-governing status within the British Empire. After 1923 the colony made great advances to create solid social services for its black and white population.
In 1939 war broke out again and as before Rhodesians answered the call having more loyal white colonial subjects to volunteer than anywhere in Africa.

In 1953 with Britain now exhausted the Federation was formed unifying North and South Rhodesia and Malawi. This Federation was working well until Britain pulled the plug. 1963 saw Britain force the unready North Rhodesia and Malawi into independence.

Rhodesia on the 11th Nov 1965 broke from Empire with the Unilateral Declaration of Independence (U D I). In it PM Ian Smith stated; "There can be no solution to our racial problems while African nationalists believe that, provide they stirred up enough trouble, they will be able to blackmail the British Government into bringing about a miracle on there behalf by handing the country over to irresponsible rule...Whatever the short term economic disadvantages may be, in the long term steady economic progress could never be achieved unless we are masters in our own house...We have struck a blow for the preservation of justice, civilisation and Christianity...God bless you all."

Britain sent aircraft and troops to neighbouring Commonwealth states to subdue this proud white country but never used them because of the truth that British troops would not fire in anger on comrades in arms from recent wars. Independent Rhodesia now alone fought international isolation and internal Marxist terror. Under the guise of Black Nationalism the communist-backed ZANU and ZAPU terrorists attacked white interests. The war was costly though with National and Economic isolation. The Rhodesians, unbowed and undefeated offered a negotiated settlement on a power sharing government 1978. At this time the Carter administration for the USA was quoted in saying; "We totally support the liberation of Southern Africa from minority white rule by means of armed struggle...to seek necessary assistance from whatever sources available.."

The white Rhodesians were truly alone and abandoned the killer blow delivered by Tory leader Margaret Thatcher: handing Rhodesia over to Mugabe as one of her first actions as Prime Minister.

Ian Smith Vs Robert Mugabe
This is the short story of the two main personalities that can simply be defined as a battle between good and evil.

Ian Smith

Ian Smith was born on 8th April 1919 in rural Rhodesia. A gifted all rounder, he was studying at Rhodes university in South Africa when World War 2 broke out, he quickly joined the No.237 squadron, RAF.
Mr Smith saw heavy action fighting hard for Britain and her empire and was shot down in 1943 and seriously injured. He recovered and resumed fighting. He was shot down once again in his Hawker Hurricane, cut off behind enemy lines he escaped by slipping over the Alps to be reunited with his squadron.
After the war he completed his degree in commerce and in 1948 married Janet Watt and entered the parliament of Rhodesia. As the British governments intentions of washing their hands of whites in Rhodesia were becoming alarmingly more apparent, Ian Smith founded the 'Rhodesian Front'.
Mr Smith became Prime Minister in April 1964 and after deadlock in refusing to surrender a white nation to black/Marxist terror, PM Smith passed the Unilateral Declaration of Independence in 1965.

Ian Smith's Rhodesian Front

After 13 years of isolation, undefeated Smith reached a settlement to allow a power sharing government. Mugabe through violence and intimidation then seized power. In 1986 Mugabe expelled against Mr Ian Smith from parliament.
When Mugabe described Mr Smith as the figure of white suppression against blacks in Zimbabwe, Mr Smith took on the slur and challenged Mugabe to walk hand in hand with him alone through a run down black district of Harare (the capital city) knowing that only the popular Ian Smith would get out the other side alive!
Janet his wife passed away in 1994, and Ian Smith now still retains his farm in Zimbabwe.

Robert Gabriel Mugabe, despot and murderer
In 1924 Robert Gabriel Mugabe was born in north Rhodesia in a mission named Katama, he was to go on to become the leader of the Marxist ZANU PF and eventually to seize control of the colony of Rhodesia. Mugabe studied at several schools and universities funded by the white government in south Africa and Rhodesia. He became a teacher in Ghana were he became interested in Marxism and African communism. Mugabe then became secretary of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU). ZANU with the banner of `Black freedom` embarked on a guerrilla campaign on the white population of Rhodesia.

Mugabe was detained and sent to prison for 10 years where he studied law. In prison he portrayed himself as a nationalist figure. The reality was a ruthless Marxist terrorist leader. Around 1972 ZANU increased attacks on white civilians of Rhodesia, the Rhodesian army and loyal blacks, economically isolated, stood, defended and repelled wave after wave of attacks by the numerically larger forces of Mugabe. Mugabe now had financial and military backing from Russian, Chinese, Polish and Cuban communist governments.
In 1978 Ian Smith, with international pressure of the world on Rhodesia's shoulders, finally conceded to the advice of the East and west and held elections.

Britain over-looked the transition to black majority rule. After electoral bullying, violence and intimidation Mugabe and his hordes won.
Mugabe set about training his newly acquired army with the help of instructors from Russia and North Korea and then with his fully trained and armed '5th Brigade' death squad, wiped out all his long standing rivals. About 30,000 people were massacred. A large number of Mugabe's closest aids were not to fare much better with many dying in a series of car and plane 'accidents'.

As the 80's passed into the 90's Mugabe aided and funded Marxist guerrillas in neighbouring states and continued his physical and political oppression in Zimbabwe.

A Victim of Mugabe's Terror
Something had to give and in the mid 90's collapse of the economy looked imminent. Mugabe played his trump card. Land seizures from whites that had built the nation from scratch. Knowing only too well the International stance of anti white bias, he was yet again able to unleash his hordes to kill, rape and maim.
Mugabe retained power in March 2002 by massive electoral fraud
